Important Notes

An affidavit to amend a birth certificate must be notarized by a Florida notary before it can be apostilled.

The apostille authenticates the notarization — it does not amend the birth certificate itself. The foreign civil registry decides whether to accept the correction.

Some countries require the correction to be made through their own civil registry or consulate — contact us to confirm requirements for your destination country.

Prepare your documents with confidence

A statement explaining an error does not amend the official birth record. Ask the receiving office whether it needs an explanatory affidavit or an amended record issued by the custodian.

A private statement or agreement needs an accepted signing format before authentication can be considered. Ask the receiving office what the document should contain and whether a notarized signature is required. A notarization or apostille does not verify the truth of every statement or decide whether the wording creates the intended legal effect.

Check that all pages, certification sheets and attachments are present. Keep the recipient’s written instructions and confirm where completed documents should be delivered. Timing is confirmed after document review and depends on preparation, the competent authority, translation and delivery.

Tell us the document, its issuer, destination country and intended use, and your deadline. We will review preparation, translation and delivery options before confirming an estimate and timing. Ask for instructions before mailing originals. Please mail with a tracking number.

  • Have the receiving office or appropriate professional approve the wording and required supporting evidence.
  • Confirm the signer’s identity, capacity and signing instructions before execution; avoid altering a signed document afterward.
  • Keep complete pages and attachments together, and confirm translation and original-copy requirements.
Can an apostille correct an incomplete or inaccurate statement?

No. Correct the underlying document through the appropriate issuer or professional first. Authentication cannot repair missing facts, inadequate powers or an incorrect statement.

What should I confirm before requesting an estimate?

Provide the document, issuer, destination, intended use, number of copies and deadline. Include the recipient’s checklist if available. This allows preparation, certification, translation and delivery to be reviewed before a cost estimate is confirmed.
