Maryland apostille services and document preparation
A notarized affidavit and an official Maryland birth certificate do not follow identical preparation steps. Miami Dade Apostille can review your document, destination and deadline, then coordinate the appropriate process. We assist with vital and court records, powers of attorney, affidavits, school records and corporate documents. We are a private coordinator, not a government office or law firm.
Before you start
- Identify the document type and the office that issued it.
- Confirm the destination country's treaty relationship and the receiving authority's requirements.
- Send us a scan for preparation review before committing originals.
Notarized documents need a Circuit Court step
- For a Maryland notarization, obtain certification from the Circuit Court clerk in the county where the notary was commissioned before submitting to the Secretary of State.
- State or county records bearing the issuing office's authorized signature and seal follow the official-record route — no added Circuit Court step.
- If the copy is older or the certifying Circuit Court clerk is no longer current, ask the Secretary of State whether it can authenticate that signature.
Obtain the right vital record
- Maryland's Division of Vital Records issues certified birth, death and fetal-death records and marriage certificates from 2007 onward.
- Its Baltimore lobby requires an appointment; some local health departments also issue certificates.
- VitalChek is its authorized online vendor.
- Check current processing notices before ordering — obtaining the record is separate from the apostille step.
Divorce verification is not the full decree
- DVR verifies divorces and annulments from January 1, 1992 onward. Its verification reports basic details such as the parties, county, decree date and action type.
- The actual decree comes from the Circuit Court that granted it.
- Confirm which document your recipient requires before ordering.
- Eligibility applies to verification requests; a representative needs the spouse's notarized permission letter.
School records and private documents
- Ask the school for the required diploma or transcript and coordinate its notarization before Circuit Court and state certification.
- Keep any sealed envelope intact until the preparation method is confirmed.
- For powers of attorney, affidavits and corporate documents, identify the relevant signer or issuing authority before choosing a route.
Mailing the request
- Use the state checklist; include the documents, destination, contact details and one check or money order covering the total due.
- Enclose a postage-paid return envelope or prepaid express label and retain tracking details.
Plan for your destination and deadline
- The state has warned that construction may change in-person availability; check the official page before traveling.
- An apostille does not guarantee acceptance of the document's contents.
- Where the Convention does not apply with the United States, additional federal authentication and destination legalization may be needed.
- FBI checks follow the federal U.S. Department of State route.
- Florida remote online notarization may be available for eligible private documents, subject to identity, witness, document and recipient requirements. It follows the applicable Florida route and does not turn a Maryland public record into a Florida record.
