Citrus County Apostille Services
Miami Dade Apostille helps clients in Crystal River and Inverness prepare documents for use abroad. We coordinate preparation review, the appropriate state or federal authentication submission and return from start to finish. The right first step depends on whether you need a vital certificate, a recorded marriage copy, a court judgment or a privately signed document.
Start with the issuing authority and destination
- An apostille authenticates an official signature or seal; it does not verify the contents or guarantee that a foreign recipient will accept a document for every purpose.
- Confirm the exact record, required language and document age with the receiving authority.
- Where the Apostille Convention applies with the United States, use the appropriate apostille route.
- Other destinations may require authentication and additional legalization.
- A Florida document, an out-of-state record and a federal background check may need different offices even when their owner lives in Citrus County.
Florida birth, death and marriage records
- The Florida Department of State accepts qualifying birth and death certificates bearing the State Registrar's signature from the Bureau of Vital Statistics or county health department.
- Marriage and dissolution certificates may come from the Bureau or the appropriate court clerk.
- A notary-certified photocopy cannot replace a properly certified public record.
- If the recipient asks for a divorce decree, check whether it needs the complete court judgment rather than a vital-record certificate summarizing the event.
Birth certificates: plan for Lecanto certificate-service hours
- Citrus birth-certificate guidance offers mail, in-person and authorized VitalChek ordering.
- It requires a completed application and valid, unexpired photo identification, with a clear ID copy for mailed requests.
- Eligibility rules apply.
- The county lists certificate service Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; that cutoff is earlier than the general office closing time.
- Confirm service arrangements before traveling, especially near the end of the day.
- Birth records sealed by adoption, paternity determination or court order follow the Bureau of Vital Statistics route under county guidance.
The Lecanto Health Department is a different office from the Clerk
- The Health Department's Lecanto main office is at 3700 W. Sovereign Path, Lecanto, FL 34461.
- Its location page gives 352-527-3013 for birth and death certificate information; the general number is 352-527-0068.
- Use the certificate line to confirm the requested record and current application requirements.
- This is separate from the court and recording offices in Inverness and Crystal River.
- A local government office may issue or certify the underlying document, while the apostille is a later step handled by the appropriate authentication authority.
Marriage and divorce: the county vital office does not offer walk-in certificates
- Citrus Vital Statistics specifically says it does not provide in-person marriage or divorce certificate services.
- Its guidance points to the Bureau of Vital Statistics in Jacksonville for that vital-record service.
- First ask the overseas recipient which document it needs: a Bureau certificate summarizing an event is different from a complete court judgment.
- A certified divorce decree belongs with the court custodian, while a recorded Citrus marriage copy can be requested through the Clerk's records service.
- Choosing the document first helps avoid a trip to the wrong office.
SCORSS and Official Records serve different document searches
- Citrus court documents use SCORSS; marriage and property records use the Official Records system.
- The Clerk's e-certification instructions explain how to locate the case or recorded document and select an eligible certified copy.
- Confidential cases can require additional access steps.
- The PDF or QR verification associated with electronic certification checks the Clerk's certification; it is not an apostille.
- Keep the original electronic file and confirm the format accepted for authentication and overseas submission before buying or printing a copy.
Recorded marriage copies and Clerk office locations
- A completed marriage record must be returned and recorded before it can serve as evidence of the completed marriage.
- Citrus provides a certified copy after recording, and additional certified copies can be purchased.
- Confirm the record is available before arranging apostille processing.
- For marriage-record questions, the Clerk lists 352-341-6424, option 2 followed by option 1.
- Ask for the required certified copy rather than relying on an unexecuted license or a personal photocopy.
Inverness courthouse or Crystal River government center
- The Clerk's current contact page lists the Citrus County Courthouse at 110 N. Apopka Avenue, Inverness, FL 34450, and West Citrus Government Center at 1540 N. Meadowcrest Boulevard, Crystal River, FL 34429.
- Both list weekday hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Call 352-341-6424 to confirm the department and service before visiting.
- Mailed requests use the Inverness address with the relevant department identified.
- Neither location is the Florida Department of State apostille office in Tallahassee.
A Citrus court-history search is not an FBI background check
- The Clerk's court-history request form warns that its search is not a background check.
- It uses the exact supplied name; aliases require separate searches, spelling variations are not automatically matched, and sealed records are excluded.
- A result from that search should not be substituted when the overseas recipient specifically requests an FBI Identity History Summary or another named criminal-history document.
- Send the recipient's precise wording so the correct record and authentication route can be identified before you pay for a search.
Private documents, school transcripts and business records
- Florida public-school or university transcripts need a registrar or issuing official's signature and notarization with a full notarial statement under state guidance.
- For affidavits, powers of attorney and other private documents, confirm the required signing and notarial certificate before execution.
- Florida business filings need an original state-issued certified copy or certificate of status rather than a simple online printout.
- Each item should be reviewed individually so that the certification fits the document being submitted.
Notarization and apostille are different steps
- Notarization prepares an eligible private document; it does not produce an apostille.
- We can discuss remote online notarization after checking identity, witnesses, document suitability and recipient requirements.
- It does not replace official certification of a public record.
- Confirm preparation before signing or sending originals.
FBI reports follow the federal route
- An FBI background check is a federal record and goes through the U.S. Department of State authentication process, not a Florida state apostille submission.
- A local court record is not the same document as an FBI report.
- If your overseas application asks for several records, share the complete list so we can coordinate state and federal submissions separately and help avoid sending the entire package to the wrong authority.
