Nevada apostille services and document preparation

After a Las Vegas wedding, the ceremony paperwork is only the beginning of obtaining certified proof of marriage. Nevada authentication also has separate document-preparation and return-shipping requirements. Miami Dade Apostille can review your destination and coordinate vital, court, school, corporate and notarized private documents. We are a private coordinator, not a government office or law firm.

Before you start

  1. Identify the document type and the office that issued it.
  2. Confirm the destination country's treaty relationship and the receiving authority's requirements.
  3. Send us a scan for preparation review before committing originals.

Start with the correct Nevada record

  • Obtain a certified copy from the county, court or records office that holds the record.
  • A divorce decree comes from the court that granted the divorce.
  • A marriage certificate comes from the county where the license was issued.
  • Private documents follow the applicable Nevada notarization process.
  • For Nevada Secretary of State commercial-record documents, contact its Copies Division for specific preparation instructions.

Clark County marriage certificates after the ceremony

  • The officiant must deliver the completed certificate to the Clerk within ten calendar days. A certified copy becomes available after filing.
  • The Clerk offers both a certified marriage certificate and a certified abstract — confirm which the recipient requires.
  • Online ordering also offers plain copies, so select certified proof when needed.
  • The County Clerk does not issue apostilles: that is a separate Secretary of State service.
  • A keepsake or unfiled ceremony document should not be assumed to satisfy an overseas agency's request.

Birth and death records: eligibility matters

  • Nevada's Office of Vital Records holds birth and death certificates filed from July 1, 1911 onward.
  • Earlier records are usually held by the county recorder where the event occurred.
  • These records are confidential and released only to qualified applicants — generally the person named, a direct family member by blood or marriage, a guardian or legal representative.
  • Review the current application and evidence requirements before ordering.

School documents: check your registrar's procedure

  • UNLV's published notarized-document guide, dated February 2021, describes arranging an outside notary and an appointment with Registrar staff, who verify the document and sign the material prepared by the notary.
  • It also advises checking the recipient's requirements for in-person or electronic notarization.
  • Because this guide is dated, confirm the current arrangement with [email protected] before arranging attendance or mailing originals.
  • Other Nevada schools may have different processes.
  • An official transcript and a document prepared for authentication are not automatically interchangeable.

Submission and return delivery

  • The state request needs the destination country, email and valid return address.
  • A prepaid return label must not bill the Secretary of State as sender — follow its current label instructions.
  • Expedited processing does not itself provide expedited return shipping.
  • Use the current submission instructions for the Carson City or Las Vegas office before sending originals. If mailing, use a trackable shipping method and keep your tracking number.
  • Keep document preparation, government processing and return delivery as separate steps in your timetable.

Choose the international route for each document

  • Nevada issues an apostille or a certification of signature depending on the destination.
  • Confirm treaty applicability and any further legalization with the receiving authority.
  • FBI background checks and other federal-agency records follow the federal process rather than Nevada's state route.
  • An apostille does not guarantee that a recipient accepts the document's contents, format or translation.
  • Florida remote online notarization may be available for eligible private documents, subject to identity, witness, document and recipient requirements. It follows the applicable Florida route and does not turn a Nevada public record into a Florida record.

How Miami Dade Apostille can help

  • Send your document type, issuing office, destination country and deadline before mailing originals. We can review preparation, coordinate the appropriate process and discuss translations with qualified translators.
  • Government processing and delivery remain separate from our initial review. Acceptance also depends on the recipient's document, format and translation requirements.

Working toward a deadline? Send us a scan before committing originals — we can review requirements and help coordinate the correct process.
